"On Jan. 17, 1994, just 2 days after my 40th birthday,
I was visiting my friend David by the sea in Santa Monica, when lo and behold!
At precisely 4:13 AM the earth shook and threatened to open its mighty jaws,
crushing me like an ant as I lay in my little bed on the sixth floor of the hotel.
My life was miraculously spared and a silver angel carried me to safety."
